Starting from the idea to to design a flexible modern family home on a spectacular but challenging site, SAOTA team managed to create a building that maximized the connection with the surrounding landscape, providing exceptional 270° views of the Atlantic Ocean and Camps Bay as well as the Twelve Apostles beyond.
These captivating images of this breathtaking contemporary house may look like they’re computer generated, but they are pure unadulterated architectural reality.
Nestled in Cape Town on the ridge below Lions Head, the work of architectural art by South African design offers a ‘seamless flow’ between the natural beauty outside and the stunning modern interior.
One of the key elements behind this jaw-dropping house was to elevate the main level on a plinth in order to create a generous space for all main living rooms. Partially set into the steep site thereby maximizing the living level and raising it above the noisy provincial road, the Ground Floor comprises guest bedrooms and secondary spaces such as a gym, a studio and the garage.
The First and Second Floors are set back, fragmented and rotated to create a central but sheltered external terrace with a spacious patio and a pool. A glass bridge connects the fragmented areas at the upper level and allows sunlight to shine between the bedroom wings and into the central areas of this beautiful home.
This breathtaking architectural work also includes generous overhangs, external sliding shutters and perforated steel and Aluminum eaves assist with naturally shading the facades. All doors and windows have performance glazing and are mostly full height which, together with the careful arrangement of internal spaces, ensured that the magnificent views are optimized for all rooms.
With its jaw-dropping architecture, it’s 270° views of the Atlantic Ocean, Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles beyond and with the absolutely lust-worthy interiors, it’s no wonder this modern residence has caught the attention of architecture lovers around the globe. Check it out.
