Photographer Takes Epic-Self Portraits Facing The Immensity Of Nature
Austria-based photographer Nicholas Roemmelt is one of the luckiest person in the world whose backyard is almost in nature and he can hike a mountain right from where he lives. When asked about his interest for photography, he states “Landscape photography as well as wildlife are the main subjects of my interest lately and I fell in love with nature nightscape photography and timelapse movies: because of their own laws and magic.”
In addition to shooting photos of nature by itself, the 40-year-old photographer will often step into his shots, creating epic self-portraits with his figure dwarfed by sweeping views of landscapes and the starry night sky. It takes a landscape photograph to another level by forcing the photographer to consider their composition more carefully, pick different spots, and get creative.
In these epic compositions, Roemmelt is seen camping in the snow, climbing to the top of a peak, and standing above raging waters. Often, he poses at night and his small, silhouetted figure is set against a glittering, starry sky.
Seeing the self-portraits of Roemmelt facing the immensity of nature reminds us just how big and beautiful our world is. Here’s a look at some of our favorite images from his archives:
