Stunning Underwater Photo Shoot With Sharks By Jeremy Ferris
When we hear the words “fashion shoot”, we immediately think of clothing, makeup style, couffure, haute couture for the purpose of showing, selling or demonstrating fashion. Unlike these fashion shoots, the following ones are meant to make everything look beautiful without all of those classical methods. In this apart shooting, the stylish clothes are secondary, nature and beauty taking priority of them.
After growing up on the beaches of Australia and surfing for as long as he can remember, Jeremy Ferris developed a passion for photography, in particular surf photography. Then progressed to an ‘addiction’ for underwater images. Due to his background, Jeremy was motivated to do an underwater fashion shoot where the models share the frame with….sharks! Perhaps the most daunting part of the project was connecting with the right model and dive master who were not only comfortable working on the shoot, but also experienced enough to be a safety asset.
The models need to interact with the big, intimidating animals ( with even more intimidating teeth ) and try to become one with them. At first, he tried shooting only with nudes to express beauty and vulnerability, but then realized that dresses look fabulous underwater.
Moreover, he tries to send a monumental message through this underwater fashion shoot: “The whole point behind this series, is to show how incredible our oceans are … and the animals that call the ocean ‘home’ are creatures of beauty and grace – to be respected, but not necessarily afraid of or threatened by. We need to be the ‘custodians’ not the ‘destroyers’. I hope that in even a small way, the love for the ocean flows into everyone who looks into these images.”
It took Ferris a while to assemble his small team, but once he was introduced to a model and shark handler/safety diver in Nassau, the photoshoot went perfectly to plan. The group dove to an old shipwreck site about 75-foot (22.8 meters) and got to work.Together with shark handlers Rudy Ferguson and Kieran McGuire, as well as diver and model Charlotte Faulkner, Ferris captured stunning images, which you can enjoy below!
