There is something very eerie yet alluring about an abandoned building. Whether is their storied pasts, their eerie aesthetics or the way they allow us to effortlessly engage our imagination as we wonder about what they might have been like in their prime, we can’t help but be amazed by the mysterious and hauntingly beautiful abandoned places.

Peter Untermaierhofer, a Munich-based photographer is one of those who find beauty in the creepy and abandoned places of the past, traveling throughout Europe searching for them and capturing their ghostly aesthetics. His ongoing series entitled ‘Lost Places’ aims to transport his audience to these places and make up their own stories about what my be hidden beneath all the dust, rust and concrete pieces.

As part of this series, Peter Untermaierhofer started shooting deserted churches, managing to capture the darkly aura of the religious ruins, places for meditation and pious reflection passing quietly away into ruins.

Seeing Lost Churches photo series by Peter Untermaierhofer is like witnessing a religion itself fall into disuse and die.
